July 25, 2015 Lakeville Contest (SAM 27 Special Rubber Contest) results are in!

The results of the July 25, 2015 contest flown at Lakeville are in. Below are personal accounts of the day by Fred Terzian and Manuel Cisneros.

Fred's summary of the day was as follows:

"The Lakeville site is in very good condition with minimal problems retrieving as in past years when the field was hard pan and rough to traverse when it was rototilled. Last Saturday, quite a few Cloud Dusters attended Jerry Rocha's Rubber contest. Some flew early and put in excellent scores. Those of us that arrived later encountered brisk winds that begin around 8 am. Many rubber flyers decided not to risk their delicate airplanes in those conditions, but that did not stop those with small gas models, hand launch and catapult gliders.

Tim Batiuk put in two excellent scores in Hand Held Catapult before losing his airplane--the only one he brought as all of his other models were caravanning with Mike McKeever back to the AMA Nationals in Muncie. He "borrowed" Andy Bandy's "Eye Poker" Catapult which I was supposed to return to Andy, to put in his third flight.

I was able to bring three grandsons to this contest: Giancarlo Cristiani (13), Nicolas Cristiani (10.5) and Kaeden Terzian (10). Kaeden beat out grandpa for second place behind Tim Batiuk. Pretty humbling to get a smaller trophy for third place! Kaeden managed an "out of sight" third flight with his catapult while Giancarlo tracked it with binoculars for five minutes as it headed towards Infineon Raceway. A great way to finish a contest!

Besides those listed above, other OCD members in attendance were Manuel Cisneros, Roger Gregory, Ron Meckley, Jim Muther, Lynn Price, Brian Workman and Ding Zarate."

Manuel had a slightly more eventful contest day, to say the least! Here's what he had to say about the day:

"... just got back from  Lakeville.  Had a grand time despite the fact that I lost my brand new stretched wing Straight Up CLG _and_ my just converted HLG-to-CLG (which was flying great) _and_ my trusty old slow-climb P-30.  I also broke a motor on my Hotbox which trashed the rear of the fuse, but I am going to attempt to fix that.

I also bashed my second backup P-30 by launching poorly and having it catch the wind which then proceeded to throw it into the ground.  Repairable.

My desperation attempt to get a third official in P-30 resulted in another broken motor on my 24" BD-4 which put it out of commission, but it's also repairable.

Oh yeah, I broke the wing of my Lagunita-Cat in half but it was a clean break at the dihedral joint so now I can add an extra couple degrees to the center joint and see if it helps he flight.  Fred said so so it must be true.

All in all, three lost models, four broken ones, and I didn't even get a chance to try to fly my FAC Moth.

But, I placed 3rd place in P-30 with only two official flights!

Also, I get to build more gliders and a new P-30!  Who could ask for anything more?

Manuel."

We hope to see you all at Lakeville on August 8, 2015 at Lakeville for OCD's "biggest" Small Field contest with many events flown, including OCD Cat, Jr HH Cat, Sr/Open HH Cat, HL Glider, Open Rubber, Jr. Rubber, P-30, Mini Moffett, Gollywock, OCD Scale, 1/2 Coupe, E-20, 0.020.
